This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a diverse group of students in south Mississippi. They are full of life and curious about interacting with history. My students are visual learners and love a hands-on approach to learning history.
Hands-on technology in the classroom is an essential tool for young historians.
Students having direct access to digitized archives and primary sources will take learning history out of a textbook and place history directly into their hands. They will benefit from interacting with our collective past directly and actively.
My Project
Right now in the world of education, ELA and Math classes draw the bulk of school resources. Computer labs and ChromeCarts are perpetually booked up leaving little resource opportunity for Social Studies classes. By having a classroom set of Fire Tablets, Social Studies classes can be transformed into the interactive atmosphere that students crave.
Everyone has had the history class that bores them to tears; but the technology that we are able to use today can bring history directly to the student in an engaging way.
Today, history can become an immersive experience. The student can interact with historical figures directly instead of dull lengthy textbook readings that speak about history but never show it.
This resource allows a student access to valuable primary and secondary sources. Fire tablets also give the student interactive classroom tools to help with learning. Kahoot and Quizlet are great interactive study tools that are not being utilized in many history classes today due to the lack of technology in classrooms.
