This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In a world where technology is key, I believe it is important to make sure all students have equal access and equal opportunities to be successful.
My second-grade students are hungry to learn, and I want to make sure they are able to receive the opportunities they deserve.
I teach second grade in a Title One School, where funding and access to technology are difficult to obtain. In the classroom, there are limited resources and tools to help these students succeed.
My Project
By supporting this project you are helping students who have very little access to technology. I teach at a Title I school where each class on average has three computers. These computers are outdated and often are not working. It is a challenge for my students who are expected to test on computers to succeed because they have not had the opportunity to practice. They are expected to know how to use the computer, but they are not given the opportunity to use computers in the classroom. My hope is that by starting with five Amazon Kindle Fires, I will begin to integrate these into our center time. Students will have access to educational apps where they will be able to practice and reinforce the skills we have been learning in class.
