My students need Amazon FIRE tablets so that they can create digital masterpieces, creating narratives that go along with their artwork and giving feedback to their classmates.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in Newton County at a public elementary school. My students are in K-5. I see all kids except PK. Most of our school is low-income and many of them don't have the opportunity to create art at home.
I see many students that struggle with academics and their home life, but they thrive in my room and they let their talents shine!
My students love to create! But honestly...what students don't? Art teaches children to think creatively. Creating and exploring is a large part of what I teach in the art room and I'm so excited to see what this school year brings.
My Project
I would love to have everyday access to tablets in my classroom. These devices would do wonders for my classroom. I want my students to be able to create digital masterpieces, work collaboratively with classmates and to publish narratives about their artwork.
Digital artwork is becoming more and more popular.
Becoming college and career ready is everything! What better way than to learn a skill in elementary school that will help them for the rest of their lives.
The writing aspect will be a great cross-curricular aspect. My school has very low writing test scores and I feel with the addition of the tablets in my room will help with getting the kids to feel more comfortable with writing.
