Our school is a typical medium-sized rural high school of 580 students. Currently 33% of our student body receives free and reduced price lunch; 27% are of a Latino background.
"Let's build a robot," they said!
Last year, thirty students worked to have a successful rookie year as a FIRST Robotics Team. This year, that group has grown to 46! Of the 46 students, 21 are veteran members and 25 have just joined the team this year. Thirty percent of our group is female, and 22% are Latino; 24% qualify for free and reduced price lunch. They are an enthusiastic bunch with amazing ideas, but they are limited somewhat by the available facilities and equipment.
My Project
Our robotics team recently enjoyed a successful Donors Choose project which provided our team with four laptops, a printer, and a new button maker. These items have greatly increased our team's productivity already.
The new supplies in this project will make a difference by enhancing those previous purchases.
The cordless mice will help our CAD team's productivity in making drawings; the touchpads are not the most efficient way to do 3D modeling. The adapters will allow the CAD team to connect their laptops to existing projection equipment to present their designs to the large group for discussion. The toner for the printer will allow us to be better prepared for regionals, and the second button maker will allow two people to work at once to create a stockpile of buttons to trade with other teams at competitions and to hand out during our local parades to promote our team.
