I just started teaching my students, so I am still getting to know them. It is a very diverse school with students of varying interests from what I am told. The other physical education teacher I am co-teaching with informed me that many of the students enjoy physical activity and exercise. My school is in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, so all the students live in an urban area.
Again, since I am a new teacher in a school with over a thousand students, and I see nearly all of them; I am still doing my best to get to know them on an individual level as much as I possibly can.
It is my hope that I will get to know my students through engaging lessons that will warrant their interest in physical education. I will be more capable of engaging my students during lessons if I have the proper equipment and materials needed for physical education.
My Project
This equipment will go a long way to provide my students with quality Physical Education and recess as well. I have just started at this school and I am blessed to have some amazing students. Many of them seem very eager to participate in various physical activities.
As a PE teacher you can never really have too much equipment, especially when teaching double classes with 60-70 students.
I want to make sure students are being as active as possible during PE and not standing in line waiting for their turn. Increased time on task and reduced idle time in PE is correlated with higher levels of enjoyment for students as well as better academic achievement.
I need to give my students the means to reach their athletic goals, as well as provide them options for various activities during recess. This equipment will serve my students for years to come and help them to achieve physical literacy.
