My first-grade students are the sweetest, hardest working 6 and 7-year-olds I have ever met! My students come from all different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are a diverse group, but they are all smart and eager to learn more. They enjoy hands-on activities and are always asking when the next STEM project will be or when it is their turn for technology. They are creative, funny, and very active. They love to try things on their own, often with a little help from me as possible.
My Project
Most of the day my class is spent in small groups. During small group reading, my students use Fire Tablets to read their guided reading book. During independent learning centers, students have the opportunity to use the Fire Tablets to take pictures of their work, record themselves reading/working on math problems, or work on activities within their digital portfolio.
To say the Fire Tablets get a workout is an understatement!
To protect the tablets and make them easy to transport, my students need special cases. These cases will cushion any accidental drops and bumps. They also have a large handle that is easy for firsties to transport! The microSD cards will be able to store all of the guided reading books for the year. It will make it very easy to challenge a student with a higher reading level and they will save time and resources since I will not be printing and be assembling readers every week. Lastly, if the internet goes down, guided reading can still go on, as we are not dependent on cloud storage.
