My student body consists of energetic and adventurous students ranging from grades Pre-K through 6th. With 52% of the student population considered math and reading proficient, the arts are taught in such a way to increase vocabulary development, understanding of mathematical concepts, and development of creative problem solving techniques.
Every student has the ability to create.
The greatest challenge my students face is developing a sense of pride in the work that they create. The obstacle they face is the difficult transition from "I can't" to "I can."
My Project
We expect excellence from our students. In the art room, this means students strive daily to do their best work and demonstrate quality craftsmanship. A solid understanding of craftsmanship will carry across content areas and into students' professional lives.
Quality materials have a major impact on the success of an artwork, including the student's sense of pride in the creation.
The materials you provide will be used to complete works of art, which students will have already dedicated time and effort to create. Students will have the opportunity to select decorative glazes for their ceramic artworks. Permanent markers will be used to define outlines. Foam sheets will be utilized to explore printmaking as a process to add details to an artwork.
In the words of Henri Matisse, "Creativity takes courage." Your contribution will provide the materials students need to be courageous with their art.
