My students need a lot of things such as books and organizers that were ruined due to Hurricane Harvey. I lost most of my teaching items during the flood.
Many of the students in my classes are economically disadvantaged. Along with this hardship, many have now been displaced from Hurricane Harvey. Their homes and schools were both victims of Harvey. My own personal home was flooded. With that came a lot of change. We met our students at Meet the Teacher on Thursday night, told them we would see them bright and early on Monday. Hurricane Harvey hit on Sunday and many were fleeing their homes on Monday. School this year started 20 days late.
Although my students may have lost a lot, they know that when they come to my classroom they can leave all of that behind and focus on learning in a safe and exciting classroom.
My Project
Most of my classroom contents were lost due to Hurricane Harvey and the flood waters that came into our school building. We are currently displaced to another campus. We are having to use what we have, in another teacher's borrowed classroom. It is not ideal but it has worked out well. Because of the loss of most of my classroom's instructional materials, the items requested will greatly help with teaching the remainder of this year and every year to come.
The kids have been a wonderful bright spot in a difficult school year.
They are facing many of the same problems at home and in their person lives. People have been very kind in reaching out to our area and particularly to our school. We thank you for that!
The kids and I have adjusted to the new normal for this year and we are having a wonderful time in spite of a lot of turmoil and change.
