I am blessed to work with a wonderful group of diverse young children who come to me with various backgrounds and experiences. I teach in a public school where a large percentage of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and are faced with other concerns that put them at risk for learning challenges. Despite these potential challenges, we work hard daily to reach our full potential.
In my classroom we are proud to love, laugh, and learn everyday.
As a preschool teacher, I work with our school's youngest learners (ages 3-5). It is important to me that I provide children and families a positive experience as they start school. Together we set goals and strive to meet them through our exciting learning adventures.
My Project
Before students can write, they have to first hold a pencil. Before students can hold a pencil, they need strong fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are the way we use small muscles, such as in our hands and fingers. Just like we make our large muscles strong by going to the gym and working out, we must also work on our smaller, finger muscles! Instead of lifting weights and doing push-ups, we strengthen our fine motor skills with other tools that target the use of muscles that will be used when holding pencils, scissors, and even eating! In recent years teachers have seen a decline in fine motor skills and we have to work extra hard in this area.
The materials I am asking for will be used daily to help students gain strong fine motor skills.
These tools will prepare students for the next step in school. Preschoolers learn best through play and hands-on experiences, so I am also requesting tools and toys that will require the use of fingers and fine motor skills. A strong foundation in fine motor skills leads to better hand writing and less frustration with many tasks in school. With the materials I am requesting we can create a space in our classroom to “work out” our fine motor muscles and gain the strength we need.
