My students need a variety of sensory fidget toys, like 2 Tangle Jr.s, 2 Liquid Motion Bubbler Fidgets, 5 Wooden Puzzle Fidgets and more, to help them maintain focus during instruction, and four fanny packs for easy transport between small groups.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As an adult, I still have trouble sitting still and listening for long periods of time. And for second graders with special needs, sitting still through a full block of instruction can seem practically impossible.
My second graders are some of Baltimore's best and brightest.
They truly make going to work FUN. That being said, many of my special education students have an extremely difficult time sitting still and maintaining focus during whole-group instruction and independent work time. We know that all of their lessons are critically important in laying their knowledge base for the future. So how can we help them get the instruction that they need?
My Project
Finger fidgets to the rescue! A fidget is a small item like a stress ball, hand mirror, tangle, sensory chew, or wind up toy that allows students to quietly keep their hands and feet occupied, and thus helps to keep their minds focused on the task at hand. Along with this incredibly varied collection of fidgets, we are also requesting 4 fanny packs so that the fidgets can be easily transported between small groups without anything getting lost along the way.
I know that my students have what it takes to be incredibly successful.
They just need a few extra tools to help them focus during class. Please help my second graders get the resources they need so that they can "get their wiggles out" and absorb all of their instruction!
