Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are unique and beautiful. For many of these three- and four-year-old children, our preschool class is their first school experience. My students all have special needs and individualized education programs (IEPs).
I work with a large percentage of students with autism, as well as students with speech-language impairments, vision impairments, multiple disabilities, and other health impairments.
My Project
These materials will be used during distance learning to help my students develop fine motor and visual motor skills at home. My students are just beginning to learn how to use scissors, and these spring-loaded scissors will help them develop this skill. They will use these scissors during remote learning for a wide variety of activities and crafts that target occupational therapy goals and motor skills.
The dry erase pockets and markers will be used with teacher provided inserts that help students develop their fine/visual motor skills and early writing skills.
These will include activities that target the development of pre-writing strokes, tracing, copying, and the ability to independently generate simple line and shape drawings. Students will also use these materials as they begin to learn how to write their names.
Students will use the play dough for a wide variety of activities that help them develop hand strength, fine motor skills, and bilateral coordination. The play dough will also be used to help students with early math and literacy skills, for example, building letters using play dough, and counting items made with play dough.
