My students need materials and games to help them improve their fine motor skills. The games and activities not only target fine motor abilities, but support academics, for example, the alphabet lacing cards and letters.
A couple months into this school year, I was switched to a 1st and 2nd grade classroom for students with autism. My students are all serviced in a self-contained classroom for students with autism, and they are all amazing and unique!
My students have many abilities and challenges.
Each one carries with them their own set of strengths and weaknesses, just like all of us! Right away, I noticed these students needed support with their fine motor skills. Tasks such as cutting, gluing, and writing are very difficult for them. This project is intended to target and improve deficits in this area.
My Project
All students come to school with strengths and challenges. One challenge my students face is the ability to use fine motor skills to complete basic tasks such a writing. Often, my students shy away from writing tasks, because they are deemed too difficult, when in fact they have a fine motor deficit that is hindering their performance. Fine motor skills are crucial, not only for developing writing skills, but for everyday activities such as playing games with peers, cooking, participating in sports, playing a musical instrument, and so much more!
These materials will allow my students daily practice in order to improve their fine motor skills.
They will work individually or in small groups, completing the activities, games or tasks provided. Not only are these materials highly engaging, but they will help support and improve my students' fine motor abilities. As a result, they will improve their writing abilities and so much more!
