Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students never seize to amaze me with their resilience and enthusiasm to learn. I teach a Preschool for All Learners class. My students have developmental delays (Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Speech and Language delays), with different strengths and abilities. They are a mixture of inquisitive minds and artistic talent, and just love to learn.
My Project
My students have deficits in their fine motor skills which impact their ability to complete self-care routines without direct adult assistance. Through the materials from this project, my students will be able to strengthen the small muscles located in their hands, wrists, and fingers which will enable them to be independent in getting dressed and eating. Imagine the joy of being able to put on socks for the first time without help! By providing my students with different activities (feeding the animals, creating designs with a drill, and stacking blocks), they will develop their fine motor skills in a way that is fun and natural through play. These materials will not only assist my students in developing/strengthening their self-help skills but also help in developing their writing skills which will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
