Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at an elementary school in an industrial suburb of Houston. Our community was just impacted by the recent ITC fires in Deer Park which closed school for multiple days and left students locked inside their homes. Our population consists of kindergarten through fourth grade from many culturally diverse populations. The students' families are predominantly blue-collar and have a passion for their children's education but have limited resources. Our community was also affected by Hurricane Harvey, displacing many of our students and staff members, and some of our families are still recovering.
The efforts and energy of all faculty and staff are focused on fulfilling our mission to provide a positive educational experience for all children.
We are committed to guiding children in a positive and supportive manner so that our students achieve academic success and develop responsible social skills.
My Project
My students are all Autistic and most of them need to strengthen their fine motor skills.
Having beginner writing paper used by occupational therapists, and therapeutic putty to help strengthen students dexterity will increase those skills in between occupational therapy visits.
With your support and generosity, we can grow autistic students dexterity and fine motor skill development to better prepare them for writing skills as they progress in their development.
My students are super hard working and deserve the best materials and having the materials that their occupational therapist uses with them in the classroom will only further their progress.
