This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
COVID- 19 has greatly impacted students ability to write and manage their emotions. The products I have requested will first make the space I work in calming. There are huge bright Fluorescent lights that need dimming ( light shades). In addition the students I work with find weighted materials ( weighted lap blanket) calming through deep pressure and weight bearing activities ( yogi dice). Next, Velcro dots are used to provide a predictable environment using visuals that can be tailored to each student within the room.
Through play students are able to use their hands more effective once their nervous system is calmed, they can engage in fine motor games to facilitate strengthening and hand dexterity (Thera putty, and tweezer pack).
Lastly, student will learn to examine their environments using visual perceptual games ( I spy), and emotional rollercoaster to identify their emotions and deal with them in a positive and expected way which will facilitate their overall Social emotional health
