My students come from very diverse backgrounds and have very diverse needs. There are five different languages spoken at my students' homes. This means that they come to school with different experiences, skills, and strengths. Despite any challenges at home, my students come to school eager to learn, laugh, and play.
For kindergartners, play IS learning.
They need opportunities to play in order to develop necessary skills like sharing, empathy, perseverance, and resiliency. I try to create and shape those opportunities on a daily basis.
My Project
Some of my kindergarten students come to school not knowing how hold a pencil or cut in a straight line. Even if they have experience with drawing and cutting, all of my students need help developing these crucial fine motor skills.
With simple tools like hole and paper punchers, beads, and therapy putty, my students will strengthen their fingers and hands.
This strength will make drawing, writing, cutting, and gluing easier. It will let them focus on the academics of a task instead of struggling to hold a pair of scissors. Developing these fine motor skills will make school more enjoyable and help them achieve their goals.
