Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a preschool classroom in a Chicago public school. It is comprised of two half-day blended classrooms. Each classroom has a mix of both three and four year-olds. There are 20 students in each class, which includes both regular and special education students. My students are eager to learn and play. Our school is limited in funding for materials. We are considered low-income, with 93% of our students receiving free lunches. Ten percent of our students are considered English language learners.
My Project
Preschoolers today are extremely involved and obsessed with their tablets. This, unfortunately, has led to weak fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are not allowed to develop when children are just swiping or tapping on a tablet. My preschoolers are coming to school with weak and inappropriate grips. This can lead to printing, drawing, and coloring to become a difficult task to perform. My preschoolers need fun and engaging materials to improve their fine motor skills.
I am looking to provide my preschoolers with fine motor materials that will also teach the basic skills taught in preschool.
The complete set of Feed-The-Animals fine motor games will allow for the children to use tweezers to grab tasty treats for the animals to eat. The Fine Motor Math Centers invite the children to pick small objects to develop fine motor and math skills along the way.
The Nuts About Counting boost early counting skills and fine motor control by twisting the nuts on a large screw. The Getting Ready to Write Gumball Grab games will provide the children with hands-on practice with sorting and matching—while building the muscle control they need to start writing.
These materials will be fun, engaging, and helpful for improving fine motor and basic skills taught in preschool.
