My Students

Our classroom is an engaging, vibrant, and diverse community that strives to create an inclusive learning environment for all students. It's a bright and busy place with high learning expectations and energy. We keep reading, writing, technology, and Common Core curriculum at the center of it all!

My students are learning to become strong, independent, and fluent readers and writers while also transitioning into responsible and respectful members of our community.

The students in my classroom are young, but with the structure, engaging lessons/activities, and support provided, they are learning how to become lifelong readers and writers. The school community we are part of is an "Inclusion Community" that provides the least restrictive environment for all students and advocates for the rights of special education students. Almost all classroom communities at our school site include students with Independent Education Plans, English Language Learners, and/or students with medical/emotional difficulties. Due to the diverse population of our school, my students have learned how to show compassion and both accept and celebrate similarities/differences, as they build trusting relationships with their peers.

My Project

My students are the most amazing creators, builders, readers, and writers! They are constantly looking for new and exciting ways to express themselves while learning about the world. In Kindergarten, due to their developmental age, learning takes place at all times of the day; during direct lessons, in small groups, at lunch, at recess, and even while 'playing'. The students in my classroom need motivating and engaging learning tools, such as the materials listed in this project, in order to make each moment in the classroom valuable.

The materials listed in this project will help to strengthen and sharpen hand eye coordination, fine manipulation of small objects, and they will also help strengthen hand muscles for writing and penmanship!

They will enhance and strengthen learning at our classroom's current Lite Table Center; they will help students develop fine motor skills while practicing academic content in fun and meaningful ways! Each day a group of students will be allowed to choose which materials they would like to use (the Lite Table accessories or the Lite Brites), by the end of each week all students will have rotated through this center and used these materials!
