Fine Motor Fun!

My students need adapted scissors, puzzles, and classroom manipulatives to develop their fine motor skills.

My Students

Worksheets can be boring! The best way to teach preschoolers to write is to develop their fine motor skills by engaging them in fun activities that motivate and make learning fun.

I teach in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom that services children ages 3 to 5 with disabilities.

Funds are limited for my program so it's a challenge to get new materials for my classroom. Our school is located in a high-need, low-income community on the South side of Chicago.

My Project

Young children learn through play and from engaging in age-appropriate preschool activities. Using puzzles, pattern blocks, and adapted scissors are great tools to promote fine motor development in preschoolers. The more a child uses his or her fingers in activities that strengthen hand coordination the sooner they will develop skills such as: writing letters and numbers legibly without significant muscle fatigue, drawing, painting, and cutting with scissors. These are skills they need for success in future grades.

The children in my classroom have significant developmental delays and require a learning environment that contains age-appropriate materials to promote optimal development.

Thank you in advance for helping to improve the quality of education for so many children in need.
