Help me give my students tools such as Dressing Frames, dough stampers, and Follow-The-Dots stamps for developing their fine motor and pre-writing skills!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from all over Washington, DC. The students are in the self-contained Communication and Education Support classroom for grades K-2. The students have an Autism Spectrum Disorder or Developmental Delay that affects their communication abilities. Many of the students are nonverbal or have emerging verbal abilities.
The students in this classroom require speech and occupational therapy services.
They need extra help with functional life skills like learning to write, using zippers and buttons, and learning to tie shoes.
The students in this class love coming to school. They have so much fun learning and work really hard! We celebrate progress and the students get so excited when they meet goals and make progress!
My Project
The kids in this classroom have fine motor difficulties, which means they have trouble using the small muscles in their hands, wrists and fingers. We work on building muscle strength and control in the classroom on a daily basis. Along with that, we are learning how to write. We practice writing our letters, numbers, and shapes through tracing and copying every day. Dry erase, write-and-wipe books will allow us to work on our letter and number formations while saving on paper and copies!
The Dressing Frames allow us to practice dressing skills (buttoning, zipping, tying, etc) and help develop finger dexterity!
These dressing frames give us the opportunity to easily practice these important daily living skills. Practicing these skills will help develop fine motor skills so these kids can live more independent lives!
