I am a kindergarten teacher in Allentown, PA. I have a class of energetic kindergartners who love learning! Ours is a Title I school, meaning at least 40% of our students are from low-income families.
My students are enthusiastic about coming to school and love learning!
They have lots of energy and enjoy spending (socially distanced) time with their classmates.
My Project
An important part of learning for younger students is the development of their fine motor skills. Many of my students enter kindergarten with weak fine motor skills, as their hand muscles are still not fully developed because of their age. The supplies I would like them to have will help them practice these skills.
Fine motor skills are important to academic tasks, such as writing and turning book pages, and life skills, such as tying shoes or buckling a belt.
I want my students to be independent and self-sufficient.
The jumbo tweezers, clothespins, and Lite-Brite will help students practice their pincer grasp, which is important for handwriting. The busy board and shoe lacing toys will allow students to practice tying shoes and using snaps, zippers, and buttons. The magnetic chips, scoop tongs, and letter pieces will give students hands-on items to practice their fine motor skills while working on educational tasks. The loop scissors will allow students to practice cutting and build up their muscles to use typical scissors. The items in this project will give my students the opportunity to practice working out the small muscles in their hands so that they can do academic and practical tasks all on their own!
