Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students we serve are energetic and eager to learn. Many, however, face many barriers before they even come into the classroom. Our school is a Title I school serving a community suffering from high poverty. 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches. With two homeless shelters in our boundaries, we serve a diverse community of students. Many of our students have never had the opportunity to experience preschool in any way.
Most households do not have access to resources and experiences at home, which makes keeping up with the demands of our education standards difficult.
In kindergarten and first grade, we strive to educate the whole child and in doing so, allow each student to experience a cross-curricular approach to learning. The children in my classroom love to play, discover, and learn new things. They are our future!
My Project
These supplies will help my students build the fine motor skills necessary for writing while having fun by playing games, using play dough, puzzles, and fishing.
Cooperation and empathy are social/emotional skills needed throughout their lives so implementing this practice from the beginning is vital.
With your help, I will provide my students many opportunities to work together to have fun, play, and at the same time, build their fine motor skills for writing as well as early math and literacy skills. These supplies will build strong foundations in academic skills but also much-needed opportunities to practice the social and emotional skills needed today.
