I work with a variety of students ranging in age from pre-k through 5th grade. These students may have developmental delays and/or educational disabilities that impacts their fine motor skills, independence with self-help, self-regulation abilities, and handwriting legibility within the academic setting.
My students love to play games that promote their fine motor skills in a fun and educational manner.
They are an energetic and unique group of kids. They come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of these students come from a high poverty area. I enjoy working with these students to increase their overall participation, performance and success in their classroom.
My Project
Well-developed fine motor skills are an essential component for a child's success in school. After a year of remote learning, I have found that many, if not all of my students, have underdeveloped hand muscles and poor stamina when participating in fine motor tasks including coloring, cutting, and writing. My occupational therapy students would benefit from kinesthetic materials that strengthen their finger and hand muscles to enhance their overall participation and performance within the classroom. With stronger fingers, my students will be better able to manipulate pencils more efficiently, demonstrating improved control and coordination when producing letters, which ultimately enhances their self-confidence.
