Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have the desire to learn. The children in my class are beginning readers. My school comprises of a large percentage of students coming from low-income families in Chicago, where ninety-five percent of the students receive free or reduced price lunch.
I will be working with one hundred first and second grade students, teaching them reading and writing in two different class periods.
Our school has gone through many positive changes in the last two years which has excited myself and my students. As I transition into teaching primarily writing, I see a need to help fine tune my students' fine motor skills and build their capacity in writing.
My Project
The children in my class are just starting their journey to become better writers. Most of the materials we use in class for writing and fine motor development are currently handmade by a teacher. I would like to have writing-specific tools and instruments for my students to strengthen their fine motor skills. Having appropriate books and materials will also inspire them to become more successful writers.
Students will build fine motor skills and improve their writing by utilizing a pencil weight set.
Students will build up their hand strength with stress relief balls and exercise rings. The more they have to help with writing, the more successful they can become.
