My students need a set of fine motor games, clay and dough designer kit, Play-Doh, beads, dressing frames, a sorting kit, hammers and rollers, lacing cards, and other fine motor materials.
Kids need to develop their fine motor skills to assist them in other areas within the classroom. Kids practice sorting, develop eye/hand coordination and build the muscle control they’ll need to start writing. My students need fun and engaging activities to develop these skills.
My students are an incredible group of Kindergarteners.
They work so hard to read and write, but need a foundation of good fine motor skills to help them develop. These kids come to school eager to learn and I try my best to make it as fun as possible for them. I admire their willingness and determination to learn. Many of my students within the district come from low SES (socio-economic status).
My Project
My students will use the set of fine motor games, clay and dough designer kit, Play-Doh, beads, dressing frames, a sorting kit, hammers and rollers, lacing cards, and other fine motor materials on a daily basis. We try to have at least one fine motor activity a day to assist them in developing their strength. One day we may use the Play-Doh to roll out letters and spell sight words. Other days, we could have partners and work together using tweezers to sort the bugs or colored balls. They will also be available in centers and as free choice materials. I want to give students as many chances as possible a day to develop these skills. All of these activities promote fine motor development.
Funding this project will make a world of a difference for my students.
Many students come from a low SES and therefore cannot afford these sort of activities at home. I want them to enjoy coming to school and have fun developing these fine motor skills. Because fine motor is so important, the students will have an easier time writing and doing other activities as they develop strength in their hands.
