Young artists love to create and when their teacher has a limited supply of "good paper" for drawing and painting it can put a damper on the excitement.
My students are a mix of special needs and general education students from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
All of my students are creative and expressive. We journal every morning and illustrate pictures to accompany each entry. With these great imaginations and toned artists muscles, my students crave quality art supplies.
My Project
Currently we have no drawing paper, a limited supply of construction paper, and nearly gone poster paints. My students enjoy drawing and painting but their inspiration is sometimes dampened when they are forced to create a "masterpiece" on the backs of recycled copy paper.
My students will create self-portraits with the support of the hand held mirrors, design geometric pattern art with the oil pastels and black construction paper, make 3D collages sealed with the mod podge, and do gyotaku fish printing with the rubber fish. Through these activities they will learn art history and culture.
Fine arts are more than just fun.
Art stimulates the right side of the brain which is said to focus on feelings and creativity. I believe in stimulating a student's "whole brain" by integrating fine arts into my curriculum whenever possible. By supporting this project, you will help my students express themselves visually and emotionally as they learn.
