My students look forward to coming to school each morning. They want to do their best and learn as much as possible. Many of these students come to school to escape what they are seeing at home. Whether it is simply to avoid boredom or to get to a safe place, school is where they want to be. My goal is to make my classroom an even more inviting place for my children.
My students are active, hardworking, and full of energy.
They want to do well with their work, and they want to be told that they are special. These kids need to know that their is someone in their corner, who is willing to support them unconditionally.
My school is 100% free lunch and breakfast. We strive to provide them with more than just an education. We want them to feel special and a part of the community.
My students need literature books to help work through the standards. However, by reading “Fish in a Tree”, they will gain so much more than just their reading standards. They will take a journey with Ally, and root for her as she discovers why reading has been difficult for her and that there is someone there to help. My students will make text to self connections with various characters: Ally who acts out to avoid reading, Albert who is smart and loyal yet won’t stand up for himself against bullies, or Jessica who would do just about anything to maintain a friendship with the popular girl. As my students follow along with the characters throughout the plot, they will discover the value of friendship and believing in themselves.
