Finding the Magic in Reading and Ancient Civilizations!
My students need the Magic Tree House series so that they have engaging books that will foster a love of reading while also deepening their knowledge about ancient civilizations!
My students will be the first group of students in a brand new STEM school. Many of my students come from low-income families and many of them do not speak English natively. Our STEM school will give them access and exposure to science, technology, engineering, and math programs that will help them become global citizens and develop 21st century skills such as problem solving and collaboration.
As a first year teacher, I will surround my students with hands-on challenges that help them learn more about the world around them.
My classroom will bubble with chatter and questions about what we are learning. Each day will be a new quest for knowledge and my inquisitive students will lead the way with their thirst for learning.
My Project
In third grade, we learn about ancient civilizations such as ancient Rome, ancient China, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and more! Magic Tree House books are set in ancient civilizations and other historic time periods. These books will help my students threefold. First, these books will give students more exposure to history content. As we read books set in ancient civilizations, students will make connections between what we are reading and what we are learning in social studies. The questions that come up while we are reading will deepen their understanding of the ancient civilizations.
Secondly, students will receive more literacy instruction during the day as we blend reading and social studies together, which will greatly help my students since most of them are non-native English speakers.
The more exposure they have to books, reading strategies, and literacy as a whole, the more they will grow as language learners and readers!
Finally, series books can foster a lifelong love for reading. My students get attached to the characters and invested in the stories; so when they finish one book, they can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next.
