This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Everyday my students come to school excited to learn in a safe environment. While their lives outside of school can be tough, they understand the importance of learning how to read and learning more about the world.
My school is located in Washington, DC.
My students are from a low-income community where many of their parents are non-readers. My students must be successful in school in order to create a future for themselves. Change happens here and it must happen for my students.
My Project
In the first two weeks of school I've already learned a lot about my students and have realized that we need a few more things to make our days most successful. We need storage bins and paper organizers so that our materials and work stays organized and easy to use daily.
My students and I are excited to begin daily guided reading in order to build on the enormous progress we made last year!
In order to support students writing more, we need composition books that we can use daily. We also need ample paper so that individual work can be created to best support learning needs. Lastly, I've noticed some of the favorite series in our classroom library and I'd love to surprise my students with new books to continue to boost their love of reading.
