I teach a special education class with 25 students who range from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. Their disabilities range from learning disabilities to visual impairment. They come from diverse backgrounds. Some students have limited verbal ability. Five students have limited motor skills, which limits their writing ability. Most are mainstreamed during the day into a regular education classroom.
They are at least two years behind their peers.
Many come from impoverished backgrounds with little parental involvement. Together we can learn and grow.
My Project
A knowledge of technolgy and the use of computers and mathematics is critical in every classroom in order for our students to be competitive in the workforce. Teachers must bring new skills that integrate these area into the classroom. Teachers must be knowledgeable and confident in teaching these things.
The Pathfinders Institute will help give me that confidence.
I plan to attend the session called Coding as a Playground. This is an excellent opportunity for me to gain knowledge and skill to teach my students about coding and robotics. It will help me to bring new innovative ideas and methods into my classroom.
