Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever been surrounded by individuals that never give up? Have you ever been surrounded by individuals that always find reasons to continue no matter the circumstances? Despite seeing their city get flooded by Hurricane Harvey, my students portray the vivid picture of being able to conquer the world with just their perspectives of life.
Most of the students in my class are students that come from low income households.
The majority of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. Their homes are filled with the worries of making ends meet like being able to get enough money to pay the light or water bill. Some of them lost everything due to the horrific floods brought to Houston by Hurricane Harvey. These students serve as interpreters to their parents because they do not know how to read or understand papers that are given to them. Even though all these obstacles stand in their path, they are resilient and determined to defeat these struggles in order to become someone in this world.
My Project
My students are English language learners that tackle any new learning with great passion. These dictionaries will help them understand the meaning of different words that they encounter throughout their reading and writing. By having a dictionary available to them, each student will be able to double check their spelling of words in their compositions. This will help them remember and recall the spelling patterns of words in future areas like when they take their state exams. These dictionaries will also help students understand the meaning of what they read in books and in their writing. They have discovered that one word can change the entire meaning of a sentence.
This wonderful resource will also help students become more independent in their own learning.
Instead of overlooking a misspelled word and wondering if it is right or wrong, they will be able to double-check their work and make proofreading a walk in the park.
