After many years of teaching, one of the greatest factors of student success is building positive relationships. I have taught for 16 years, and am been blessed to be the math coach at an elementary school. My role now, is to help foster other teachers to create and engage students in in-depth standards based learning. In order to help teachers and stay relevant to the teaching craft, I continually need to improve my own. Many of the students come from diverse backgrounds and family structures. They face challenges such as immigration, English as a second language, drugs, poverty, incarcerated family members, and more. They routinely challenge me to be a better teacher through my lessons and interactions with them.
I love watching students mature and grow each year!
While my focus is on helping teachers' develop their students' mathematical success, the best part of teaching is watching students begin to develop into individuals with goals, dreams, and initiative when they start to realize all the potential they have access to beyond our little area. I hope to continue to be better and provide better for my teachers and our students.
My Project
For ten years I have watched social media revolutionize teaching. I witnessed the boom to Teacher Blogs, morph into FaceBook and Instagram stories. This revolution has changed how I taught! It developed into a dynamic group of teachers sharing best practices and strategies to engage students. For the last two summers I have witnessed change and excitement happen at the Get Your Teach On National Conference wishing I had been there. Well, I'm ready! I cannot wait to be among a cadre of dynamic educators to grow and take on new challenges so I can better impact the students at CLE!
