This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first year teacher who is desperately trying to get a hold of a class set of 32 thesauri. My district has an amazing writing philosophy that allows the children a lot of freedom while introducing essential skills. While I conference with individual writers, the rest of the class must solve problems independently and this can be difficult without the proper tools. We have plenty of paper and sticky notes and dictionaries; unfortunately we have only 4 thesauri that have seen better days. My thesauri might have been helpful thirty years ago. Besides having too narrow a word bank, they are out-of- date. What I really need is a set of thesauri that is up-to-date, pertinent, and user-friendly. It would be awesome if every student could have one of his own so I could actually conduct lessons showing the practical and exciting uses of thesauri. I've used the thesaurus on my computer four times while writing this essay, and I know my students would benefit from having the same tool at their fingertips. Many of my students have already asked me if I have better thesauri and, though I have tried finding them at my school site, I haven't been able to get them into the children's hands.
