Finding Joy in Reading!

My Students

We are a new school, so our library selection is small and growing. Our 20-21 school year had us using carts to bring books into each classroom for the students to select books from. Each grade had their own cart. This meant none of the students had access to all the books to choose from, even as limited as it was. This year we are able to meet in a small library, and they get to choose from all the books, but we are still way under the recommended number of books per student we should have.

We want our students to find the JOY in reading a physical book.

This year we have been able to see students that read maybe 6 books the whole school year, already meet the goal of 10 books by January! Keep them on track for the Reaching for 20! by the end of April! Having a larger selection of diverse subjects and authors will help them to achieve this.

My Project

By expanding the books accessible to our students K - 6th grade, we will be able to allow them to check out more than one or two books at a time. This will be beneficial to those students that do not have a home library or the means to go to the public library. We want to encourage free reading time to our students.

Finding JOY in reading is our number one mission!

When we can help our students find that, they are then able to find success in all other areas of school and life. We have to give them access to more titles, authors, and subjects that will peak their interest and open a whole new world to them.
