Research has determined that reading fluency (a combination of rate, accuracy, expression, attention to punctuation, and putting it all together) is a major building block contributing to the success of students academically. My students need interesting materials for consistent fluency practice.
My second grade students are engaged and independent students who thrive on success at school!
In order to facilitate maximum success, I strive to provide a variety of materials in my classroom to ensure that they have the best instructional resources available to them so that they can, indeed, be assured of academic success. By helping them achieve adequate reading fluency, I can know they will be able to handle all reading material they need to read and create comprehension.
My Project
With these reading fluency activities and materials (partner scripts, timed reading passages,and a classroom fluency station,I will be able to work with small groups and have students work in cooperative groups and independently in ways that will benefit the development of reading fluency. Timed reading passages will aid them in independently increasing their fluency and developing self confidence. Partner scripts will allow reading fluency interaction with a buddy. The classroom fluency station will encourage cooperative groups to experience fun ways to increase reading fluency. Great opportunities to build a foundation with the building block of fluency will be provided!
