As the librarian, I see students (regular education and special education) in grades K-5 at two schools. One is a Title 1 school where a large population is free or reduced lunch. The books in both libraries are falling apart but that doesn’t hinder students’ spirits when it comes to reading.
Some students need engaging and varied books that will inspire them to become better readers!
As in every classroom, there are students who do not read on grade level. I want these new book titles to get them excited about reading!
My Project
With the exposure to new books, students will gain insight into new and exciting worlds. My goal at the end of each day is to foster an environment where students can become lifelong readers. Some readers are reluctant but most can’t wait to check out a new book. When students find a book they want to read, they are more likely to comprehend it.
Having an array of genres in the library will entice students to read and engage them in the story.
By expanding the book options in the library, students will be able to find a title that they are interested in reading.
