My students need a classroom library bookcase that allows them to explore a variety of different books. This project will be the first piece in building the classroom my students need.
I teach 8 students who have a variety of intellectual and physical disabilities in my schools 3-5 Multiple Disabilities classroom. They come from homes that are low income or no income at all. Our school is 100% free and reduced breakfast and lunch. The state of New Jersey has a 16% special education rate, my district is 27% special education.
Many of my students like to read books but struggle to read.
The students in my class are lower level readers and want to become better readers. This project is the first step in helping them to become better readers and improve their desire to read books during their leisure time. Classroom libraries are an essential classroom material to help students become better readers. The goal of this project is to do just that. The Furn Bookcase will be the centerpiece of our classroom library and allow students to easily identify books that are on their individual reading levels.
My Project
This project will be the first piece in creating a classroom library for my students. My students love to read and need a place to store the books and feel comfortable when they read. The Furn bookcase will be that place where my students will be able to find books they will enjoy reading. Reading is an important part of our daily schedule. We will use the books for guided reading and independent reading. It is really important that we have a place for students to go and get books that they can read.
This project will help teach my students about organization.
Our current books are not organized. Through this project, the furn bookcase will allow my students to be able to learn how to organize books by their levels and whether they are fiction or nonfiction. Organizing is an important skill that my students will be able to learn that can help them better understand the types of books that they read. My students will then be able to go to the Furn Bookcase and find a book by genre and reading level. The Furn Bookcase will serve multiple purposes in our classroom library.
