My Students

My students come from a high poverty community, where most of them qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Our school lies in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains and has mostly farmland surrounding it. They are growing and learning in the same small, tight-knit, school community that inspired me to be a teacher. They work extremely hard to excel in their school work and be leaders in the classroom. My students are special because they want to be successful in school and in life!

My Project

In our 3rd grade classroom, we do a lot of reading. One important part of our day is self-selected reading time. During this time, students select their own book and are able to move around the room in a comfortable spot. Right now our classroom has 3 bean bags. It becomes hard to ensure that each student has a chance to use the comfortable seating during this time, so I would like to ensure that every student can have a pillow “spot” every time that we do self-selected reading time. Having a comfortable, relaxed environment helps my students grow!
