Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Shouldn't everyone have access to the curriculum? My students are enthusiastic learners but benefit from hands on manipulatives. We encourage cooperative learning, but lack the correct tools to really develop concrete math skills. Money kits and math materials will really enhance my curriculum.
My students come from a low socio-economic background.
Most of them have no computers or Internet access. The majority are on free lunch and face struggles in their daily life. Through all these struggles, they still come school with an enthusiasm to learn every day. Computers and math manipulatives help keep this spark alive because it motivates them to learn about all the things the world has to offer.
My Project
My students need a laptop,math books and math manipulatives to make them financially literate. My students are very curious and a laptop will provide up to date technology so we can access videos, websites and use the SMARTboard to capture their attention. The math books and manipulatives will give them concrete materials to deepen their math knowledge. They will be better able to access common core curriculum and enhance their mathematical understanding of money.
I am able to provide math instruction to my students using textbooks, but having concrete materials will allow for more student engagement.
Providing them with real life connections to money will encourage them to broaden their knowledge. When my students are more engaged, the possibilities are endless.
