Ms. Nicole from Chandler AZ is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need professional development through Montessori training at the Montessori conference in Washington D.C. The training will include many subject areas - math, financial literacy, science, language arts, etc.
My students are very diverse. They have different interests, abilities, and goals. Some are still building on their reading, writing, and math skills. Others are ready to learn and explore independently. They are so willing to engage with one another. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We are a Montessori classroom that utilizes concrete materials, group work, alternative seating, and learning options to ensure that every student's needs are met, at their own level! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have this group of learners that are excited and ready to learn and flourish emotionally and academically through a three-year cycle!
DonorsChoose.org and The Charles Schwab Foundation are making dreams reality by offering a professional development match for teachers.
It is always important to remember that you are never too old or too wise to learn.
In the teaching field, professional development is teacher speak for learning how to become a better, more informed teacher. This March in Washington D.C., The Montessori Event, formerly the AMS Annual Conference, is gathering the largest number of Montessori educators in the world for the signature event of the American Montessori Society. At this conference, I will have access not only to financial literacy professional development opportunities but also many other areas as well!
The following are some of the workshop sessions I look forward to attending: Building Community through a Capital Campaign, The Mixed-Age Adolescent Math Classroom, Demystifying Math a la Mario Montessori, and Refreshing the Math Shelves. Montessori allows teachers and students to have a unique hands-on approach to subjects like financial literacy. Money and math can be such abstract subjects for students to grasp, but the tools in Montessori classrooms allow them to become concrete and engaging. I look forward to the training that The Montessori Event Conference will provide. I know it will make a huge difference in my classroom for me to have this training experience.
Many at my school are hoping to raise enough money for a group of our teachers to attend this training. This project is my effort to raise a portion of my money needed for this financial literacy professional development opportunity. The money will help pay for a portion of my plane ticket, a portion of my hotel, a portion of my food, and a portion of my conference fee.
