My students need a Chromebook and the management license to work on financial literacy sites such as the Stock Market Game to learn practical money skills.
I teach an extremely talented and unique group of fifth graders in Kentucky. They are both advance program students and regular program students. Several of my students are from different countries.
We are considered a school with moderate poverty, but we do not qualify for additional state and government funds.
Each of our at-risk students needs the opportunity to have the same resources as students at other schools. My students are eager and excited. They are creative and want to learn more. They are eager and seek knowledge on a daily basis.
My Project
My goal in fifth grade is to teach my students about financial literacy. I can do that better through the many online websites aimed at teaching students at their own pace. Practical money skills taught at a young age will help my students in their futures.
Financial freedom is available to those who learn about it and work for it...Robert Kiyosaki
Another goal is for my students to teach their parents about what they learn as well. Through the Stock Market Game, my students are in a real-world situation about stocks and bonds. They learn to use online resources to check on their stocks, their rise and fall, their yearly gains/losses. My students go home and talk with their parents about stocks, how stocks are purchased and they often get advice from their parents about what stocks to purchase. Most importantly, the Stock Market Game will help them develop positive money habits and prepare them for their future investing.
An additional Chromebook in my classroom (along with its management console) will give more students in my room the opportunity to check their stocks and learn more about practical financial skills. The following financial literacy online games will be utilized: Learning Coins, Money Bingo, Dolphin Feed, Escape from Barter Island, Dollar Dive, Hot Shot Business and many more.
I look forward to offering my students more opportunities to use technology to learn about financial literacy.
