Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a class of twenty-four, amazing, first-grade students in a diverse, Title I community, located in the inner-city. It is in one of the largest cities in the country where all students receive free breakfast and lunch.
I have the privilege of educating my inquisitive, energetic and intellectually curious class of first graders.
They love to learn and love to show others what they've learned.
To help them overcome the challenges they may face at home, I am eager to provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences, where everyone is heard and everyone is made to feel empowered and important.
My Project
My students are learning the value of money, and what better way than to earn it and then decide if one should save it or spend it. Everyone applies and is hired to perform their desired job. If a job is well done, they earn their play money, and at times even earn a bonus!
First graders are never too young to learn the importance of Financial Literacy!
My students learn from day one, the importance of cleanliness by picking up after ourselves and keeping our work areas nice and tidy. The vacuum, broom, dust pan, and mop are the perfect motivation for my students to perform their job and earn their play money. The pencil pouches would serve as their play money wallets. They would learn the importance of spending wisely and saving for more expensive items to buy in our classroom store.
It is never too early to help our kids be ready for the real world. Understanding the value of money, saving, and working for what we need and want is a valuable lesson. Thank you for supporting my first graders and their education.
