Help me give my students financial literacy through chores such as vacuuming and pencil sharping as well as fun games that I will make with the paper cutter and laminating sheets.
My students are active, vivacious, energetic 2nd-grade learners. They come into my classroom with unique characteristics, skills, and life experiences. They all have a common goal: to be successful in life.
They have big dreams, and I feel that with the appropriate tools, I can help facilitate those dreams.
This is our theme this year: "Stand Up, Stand Out! Hero In Training!" This theme is displayed throughout our school and embedded in all subjects. We believe that literacy is at the heart of all learning. We are a diverse classroom with one-fourth of my 2nd graders qualifying for special education.
My Project
As parents, we all expect our children to do chores and many earn an allowance to do so. I have been doing this same thing in my classroom to teach financial literacy. I would like to add more chores to my list. That is why I am requesting a vacuum cleaner and pencil sharpeners. As you may be aware, pencil sharpeners wear out quickly with student use but by having them to the work it is teaching that hard work pays off. After their weekly chore the are able to come to my store and either spend it, save it for something larger or donate the money to a good cause that I switch over to real money. One of the items that can be purchased is extra time playing with my stem bins and that is why I’m requesting the blocks. I will also further my teaching of financial literacy with games I make with the lamination film and paper cutter. The Expo markers and erasers will be used during whole group instruction.
