Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure of working in a middle school Therapeutic classroom. My students with special needs require a safe learning environment which includes therapy and counseling to help them cope with some of their daily struggles.
We are reading a little below our grade level, and learning how to write paragraphs using organizers.
Math consists of the basic arithmetic, we are adding Fractions this year. Our students have a desire to learn how to create real budgets.
We are also doing some career inventories and talking about our strengths. We work on our social skills and the importance of being positive and kind to others
Currently, I have 4 boys and 2 girl in our Therapeutic class. I am blessed to have 2 amazing para-educators.
My students require sensory breaks, and short increments of instruction due to their inability to focus for long periods of time.
My Project
My middle school students have been asking me a lot of questions about how they will be able to budget their money when they are old enough to graduate. They are curious about how they are going to be able to pay their housing and other costs. What types of careers they will need? These of course are great questions. My desire is to begin to teach them about how to save and the importance of being responsible with their money. The use of the books "Not your Money: and "Smart Spending the Teens guide to cash, credit and life's cost" will provide us to have classroom discussion about how to save your own money and the importance of budgeting. I also will be using the board games, "The Allowance Game" during math instruction so that the students can have fun while learning. The calculator and holders will allow us to learn the different operations while using a calculator.
