Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are a full spectrum with a diverse campus in race, culture, socioeconomic status and interests. Our campus serves approximately 635 students, grades 7th thru 8th and between the ages of 12 to 14. Ethnically our students are approximately 87% minorities with 45% being Latin American, 26% African American, and 13% Asian and Pacific Islander. Twenty-five percent of our students are currently an English Language Learner.
Over 75% of our students come from low-socioeconomic background, but their thirst for knowledge is fierce!
My Project
Every art career has some aspect of freelance or side businesses because of the skills and interests it brings to the world. Building an Art business is a perfect way to also integrate financial literacy. The value is not only in the importance of Art and history of itself but also economic value that it can bring the savvy artist. An artist with high ambition and the drive to make passive income can see how easy they can take an idea, create and sell their own artwork with projects we do in class. Art is expensive and instead of sending them off to bear the costs of prints we want to level the playing field with quality office equipment!
With art moving towards a digital medium and art careers heavily blended with tech my students need the means to catch up.
This Lexmark laser color printer for the classroom is the first major part of what we will need to make it happen. The high-quality prints can be used for several digital projects that we will do that will involve prints and selling products they make. Please help my students have items that they can begin making professional quality images from.
