Imagine coming from a home where they didn't have any electronic devices. What about a computer? Many students today still don't have those type of devices at home!
My students come from all walks of life.
I am very fortunate to have students that are very eager to learn and love to be at school. Since my students are years behind, we spend a lot of our time reviewing concepts that they should already know.
Many of the concepts are basic math skills and phonics. One of the things that makes our classroom interesting is that we are a resource for our students. Since many are behind-they need small adaptions to be successful in the general education curriculum.
My Project
My students will use these iPads to help them become financially literate. Imagine being in sixth grade and not knowing about money. Not knowing that a quarter is more than a dime. Or knowing that a dime is more than a nickel-even though the nickel is larger.
Apple provides many apps that students can use to learn about money and how to manipulate it to help them be more understanding when they want to "spend." Students need the extra support to help them understand the value of money and how it should be used and saved.
One of the main reasons why we are asking for the iPads is for the support the student will receive from the applications that are available in the Apple App Store.
We have been researching many of the apps and have let the students use these on our own perusal devices.
Please consider helping our students learn what it means to "spend money!" I sure hope they really don't think "money grows on trees!"
