I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life and eager to learn.
As a member of the AmeriCorps program, I set out to make our people safer, stronger and healthier; to strengthen our communities; and to get things done for America.
As a member of Metro Atlanta Teach for America, I have been positioned to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in our region’s high-need communities.
Kindergarten students need to start learning about financial literacy through career choices. Learning about wants and needs, and developing early financial literacy is imperative in preparing these students for success when they grow up.
In this project, students will learn about financial literacy by learning about different careers through dress up and play.
Kindergarten students love to use their imagination and what better way to teach them real life applications like wants vs. needs than through dressing up like the community helpers they see everyday. The Lakeshore Career Costume Set will allow my students the opportunity to start thinking about a career and the best uses for the income they earn so that they are more prepared for developing a strong financial future.
