Help me give my students pop-its, squishies, small action figures, and other trinkets they need to continue our classroom economy where they are learning the attributes of coins, making change and the importance of saving.
My math resource classroom consists of between 15 and 25 students between kindergarten and fifth grade. My students have a variety of intellectual and developmental delays, cognitive disabilities, speech, hearing, and visual impairments, behavioral deficits, social and emotional issues, and varying levels of anxiety and sensory issues.
My students work very hard and require many modifications and accommodations to allow them to be successful at school.
They need extra time, many opportunities for re-teaching, and for material to be presented in a variety of ways to allow them to process and retain the information. They have to put in the extra effort, but it is amazing to watch them make growth in their learning. My classroom provides an environment that allows all children of all abilities to learn and grow.
We are a Title I school, where the staff is dedicated to the continuing academic success and the social and emotional growth of all students. Our school challenges its students to be respectful, responsible, and kind. Our Gators are amazing! Thank you for supporting them!
My Project
We are working on financial literacy!
The growth I have seen in my special education students since starting this project is amazing!
Students that have struggled with basic concepts of money are showing success with identifying coin names, values and counting small collections of coins.
Each day students earn coins for good behavior, working hard and helping others. On Friday we add up our coins and trade them for other coins and dollars. Then they decide what they are going to spend in our class store, what they want to save for.
I purchased the materials needed to get the project started but I need more items to continue the rest of the year. I need a wide range of items that include items that motivate them to save. I also want to prove them each with their own bank to keep their coins in. We currently just use small boxes and they are not holding up.
I knew financially this project would be difficult for me to maintain but the outcomes I am seeing makes all the money I spend on it and the time spent getting donations from generous donors to help maintain it worth it!
My student's faces light up when they see new options in our store. They work harder and can't wait to start planning their budgets to purchase the new items
Please help me get the items I need to sustain this amazing project for them!
