Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A large number of our students are on free lunch and funds are not always readily available for certain items that will enhance and cultivate financial literacy and academic success. My students are wonderful!
Using technology to engage students through interactive financial literacy activities promotes active learning. Developing financially literate children begins early. Teaching about saving, spending, investing, and earning money is essential in creating financially responsible adults.
My students are in a low-income school.
Almost all qualify for free lunch. They come to school early in the morning and leave close to 6! Parents work hard, sometimes two jobs to bring home what they can and very often that isn't enough. My students rely on me to provide for their emotional and educational well-being. My heart goes out to my students as I try to provide whatever I can.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad mini, a protective cover, power adapter and earbuds for a financial literacy project. Developing financial literacy skills in young children through the use of iPad mini interactive apps on financial literacy activities will help my children form good habits of saving and spending money by using real-world applications which will dramatically affect their future. The apps and interactives will allow us to work in whole groups and small groups, allow my students more class participation in meaningful activities, and allow them to learn on a large scale, in order to be able to see ideas being conveyed visually and interactively. The iPad mini will allow us to work with small groups on research and projects. It will allow us to practice our money skills of basic adding and subtracting, utilizing different applications.
This project will provide students with real-life opportunities to practice successful financial literacy skills that will benefit them throughout their whole lives.
We will have an avenue to practice the life skill of financial literacy and as a result my students will become more knowledgeable and aware of how to begin the process of saving that will ultimately impact them for the rest of their lives. Thank you for partnering with me to help prepare my students for a better economic future.
