My Students

I am currently a biology teacher as well as the Boys Varsity Head Coach. Our population consists of students who are first generation English learners and more than 50% of all students are on free or reduced price lunch. Our school consists of approximately 73% Asians and 22% Hispanic. Over 70% of students scored above state averages for reading and math.

As a Biology teacher, I strive to bring out the best in my students by teaching them that having a strong work ethic can produce positive results.

My students are highly motivated to learn. They have such a positive attitude about the pursuit of education. They love working in collaborative groups. Learning how to work with others in a group setting is an invaluable life lesson. When kids are in groups, they learn how to socialize, how to cooperate, how to cope with failure, how to work for a common goal, and how to accept responsibility for their actions. As you know, the importance of teamwork is essential in today's multidisciplinary world!

My Project

It's never to early to teach financial literacy to kids. Some of my students have part time jobs and are working after school. Many don't know about financial literacy and what it entails. Many students have no idea of delayed gratification and how money works.

I want to empower my students to take charge of their life and future while they are still young.

These books are a great read to understand how finances work such as stocks, interest, bank statements, charge cards, and a checking account. The book "Why Didn't They Teach Me This in School?' is an easy way for students to understand 99 personal money management principles. I chose the Financial planning book so I can make copies and give examples of various financial plans they may face in the future. If they could see that $2000 today can be $200000 in 20 years will get them interested.

The Chromebook is a great way for students to look at news and websites that show them how to plan, save, and become financially literate. There are websites that give students scenarios and worksheets to practice how they can stretch their earnings and make them financially free!
